I mean would you just look at that?! I must have flipped through Nigella's How To Be A Domestic Goddess a million times ever since I got it for my birthday last year but this is the "christening" bake. What better way to "christen" a recipe book by making some lemony goodness? This Lemon-syrup Loaf Cake may seem like just an "ordinary pound cake" and I think it would probably be without the immersion of the syrup. I found the cake itself did not have that an intense lemon flavour but paired with the syrup, ohmylemon! It IS good. Thus, it is no surprise that i love the top part of the cake more than the bottom. The next time I make this, besides letting the cake absorb the syrup through the holes poked by a skewer, I am going to double the syrup and dip my slice of cake in it to be lemon-fied (satisfied lemon-ly).
Oh. Did I mention that Nigella writes one of the loveliest recipe books I have ever come across? It is like reading the thoughts in her head while she makes the yummy things in her book or like watching her on TV in text. I will definitely be baking more from this book!
What did I do with the leftover lemon juice from making the cake? I made this:
Perfect.

Oh no...no amount of lemony goodness can bore any1 and specially not if it happens to be as eliciously good as this ......
Are you kidding? How can lemony goodness be a bore especially, like you said only 'once in a blue moon' lemony stuff shows up?? Lemon and other citrusy flavours are amazing. You probably haven't worked with pure Lemon Oil - that is absolutely heavenly. I have just baked a batch of cookies using lemon peel and lemon oil... and the kitchen was infused with Lemony Goodness when the cookies were baking....:)
Thanks for the comment!! Your treats look absolutely delicious too! :)
Oh lemony goodness is right. The cake looks amazing. I love lemony or citrus flavor in desserts. :)

Lemon goodness can never be a bore:) Looks wonderful....loved it:)
Lemon is always fine with me, a drink with lemon and honey has helped me quickly recover from flu. After juice is squeezed, I even put it in the fridge to help keep the air refreshing : ).
@Mr P.: definitely right about lemon being the best flavour. hands down! it was a fated encounter-the discovery of your blog:)
@Shirley: ahhh.thank you. i would definitely check that out:) i am sure the rest of the flavours would be wonderful too!:)
@Nina: thank you. the cake is really simple lemony goodness we can indulge in everday! for me at least:) haha
@TasteHongKong: you remind me of my mom (definitely not talking about the age here) because she always makes me lemon honey drinks flu or not and told me to put all the used lemons in the fridge to freshen it up! haha
i will never. ever. tire of hearing about lemons.
your photos are beautiful.
@AmberLee: i have some true blue( i mean yellow) lemon love in the house!:) thank you for liking my photos, i am still trying to improve on them! i lovvvve your blog and will check back often:)
I'm on a lemony kick these days and this is juuust perfect! And lemon will never bore me. I love the freshness it evokes.
I've never tried this recipe, but I will, soon. Great idea with the skewers so the syrup will penetrate. :)
@Joy: it was Nigella's idea to poke holes actually just that she did it with a cake tester and since i dont have one of those fancy shmancy things, i used skewers to test the cake and poke the holes. haaha. this cake is really really delicious, you should definitely make some. oh and the lemon tart i made some time back was real good too so maybe you should make some to celebrate your niceylooking macarons:)
